Vice in MA wants front against new oligarchy Brandão – 01/06/2026 – Panel

Vice-governor of , the PT member is talking to center-left parties to form a broad front against what he calls the “new oligarchy” of , the current governor of the state and who is trying to appoint his nephew as his successor in the position.

Camarão states that he seeks to build a coalition to “confront the new Brandão oligarchy”.

He says that, today, a candidate is emerging with the support of the center-left of Maranhão, in an alliance that would include PT, PC do B, PV, Rede, PSOL and PSB, Brandão’s former party. However, according to people familiar with the negotiations, there are talks with parties such as the PSD, owned by the mayor of São Luís, cited as a strong candidate for the Palácio dos Leões. In this scenario, Camarão could be part of the ticket, but would leave for the Senate.

“The ongoing dialogue aims to form a center-left front in Maranhão, without any renunciation of the position of vice-governor, with the definition that there will be no support for the candidacy of the governor’s nephew and with the necessary maturity to, according to the 2026 scenario, build a victorious alternative for the State”, he states.

Camarão is trying to sew his candidacy for the government of Maranhão, amid a split in the state caused by the break between the current governor and the current minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court).

According to an agreement made in 2022, Brandão, with the support of Dino, would go to the Senate in this year’s elections and support his vice-president in the dispute for the Palácio dos Leões. However, the current governor of Maranhão has chosen the name of his nephew Orleans Brandão to replace him in the position. The dispute (PT) in 2026.
