Wave and particle, dead and alive – quantum physics is known for the fact that systems can have seemingly contradictory properties at the same time. Francesca Ferlaino succeeds in uniting contradictions not only in her research, but also biographically. The native Italian was honored as Austria’s Scientist of the Year 2025 on Wednesday in Vienna for her outstanding research and her commitment to communicating science. This year the prize was awarded for the 32nd time by the Science Journalists Club.
