The United States seized this Wednesday (7) an oil tanker linked to Venezuela after a chase lasting more than two weeks across the Atlantic, American authorities told the broadcaster NBC News.
The seizure, which could increase tensions with Russia, comes after the tanker, originally known as Bella-1, evaded a US maritime blockade of sanctioned tankers and rebuffed efforts by the US Coast Guard to board it. The ship reportedly flew a Russian flag.
An official told Reuters that the operation was being carried out anonymously by the Coast Guard and the US military.
