Anvisa suspends the sale of specific batches of Nestlé Brasil infant formulas

A announced this Wednesday (7) the voluntary and preventive recall of specific batches of its infant formulas, due to the identification of the substance cereulide in an ingredient from an external supplier. In a statement, the company stated that the presence of the compound, produced by the microorganism Bacillus cereus, was detected during the company’s routine quality analyzes. In a statement, Nestlé stated: “We have notified the ingredient supplier and improved quality protocols.”

Anvisa ordered the suspension of the sale, delivery and use of specific batches of infant formula produced by Nestlé Brasil. The measure affects products from the brands Nestogeno, Nan Supreme Pro, Nanlac Supreme Pro, Nanlac Supreme, Nanlac Comfor, Nan Sensitive and Alfamino and was made official through Resolution No. 32/2026. The decision was adopted preventively to protect the health of consumers.

Bacillus cereus is commonly found in raw materials and occasionally in foods, and does not usually have an impact on . However, it has the potential to produce substances, such as cereulide, which can cause adverse reactions in some cases, such as persistent vomiting, diarrhea and/or unusual lethargy – symptoms that can occur up to six hours after consumption.

According to a statement, to date, the manufacturer has not received reports of adverse reactions or health problems related to these products on a global scale.

The company said that the microorganism did not reach other products or batches in the infant nutrition line, and that they remain safe for consumption and will continue to be sold normally.

Nestlé highlighted that it maintains cooperation with health authorities to carry out the recall and update control protocols. “The measure aims to completely withdraw the remaining units from the market and prevent new incidents in the supply chain.”

Consumers who have units from the listed lots must stop using them immediately. The company replaces or fully refunds the amount paid through communication channels.
