Deaths in US attack on Venezuela reach around 58, say unofficial sources

Five days after carry out military action to remove the president of the Nicolás Maduro, in power, Venezuelan authorities have not yet reported the total number of deaths, nor the number of injured or the extent of the damage caused by the US attacks on the capital, Caracas, and the states of Aragua, La Guaira and Miranda.

The little official information released until Tuesday night (6) shows that at least 58 people died last Saturday (3), when the US military invaded Venezuelan territory, bombed strategic points and kidnapped Maduro and his wife, First Lady Cília Flores, who were forcibly taken to a temporary detention center in New York, USA.

In addition to 32 Cuban soldiers who were part of Maduro’s security detail, the so-called Operation Absolute Resolution killed at least 24 men and women who served in the Venezuelan Army and at least two civilians, who have already been identified.

Rosa Elena Gonzáles, 80 years old, lived near the Military Academy of the Bolivarian Armada, in La Guaira. According to the Venezuelan press and news agencies such as EFE, she was seriously injured when her home was hit during the attack. Taken to hospital, the elderly woman succumbed to her injuries. His body was buried on Monday (5), in the presence of friends, relatives and journalists.

The second civilian victim of last Saturday’s bombings already identified is Colombian Yohana Rodríguez Sierra, 45 years old. His death was confirmed on Monday by the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro.

“By bombing [a Venezuela]they murdered a Colombian mother”, wrote Petro on his personal account on X (formerly Twitter), criticizing US President Donald Trump. “Under your internationally illegal orders, they murdered an innocent Colombian, Caribbean mother, full of dreams”.

According to the Colombian press, the house where Yohana lived with her daughter Ana Corina Morales was in a residential area of ​​the city of El Hatillo, in Miranda, and was hit by a US missile launched, probably, against telecommunications towers and antennas in the region. Yohana, who had lived in Venezuela for more than a decade and had a small business, succumbed to her injuries.

This Tuesday (6), the Bolivarian National Armed Force (Fanb) honored the 24 Venezuelan soldiers killed during the action – carried out without the knowledge of the United States Congress and without the approval of the United States Security Council. . The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs released, on social media, a message illustrated with photos of the 32 dead Cuban soldiers.

“Our fighters died revolutionaryly, fulfilling a sacred duty,” stated the ministry, classifying the United States’ action as a “cowardly and criminal act of state terrorism” against Venezuela.

Also this Tuesday, during an event with representatives from his party, the president of the United States, said, without giving further details, that many people “on the other side”, including Cubans, died during the US military incursion, without there being any casualties among their country’s military. “It was a brilliant attack tactically,” commented Trump.
