The Administration has once again defended this Tuesday that it was an invention of the Democratic Party, on a website launched by the White House five years after the attack on Congress by supporters of the now American president who did not recognize his victory in the 2020 elections.
“Democrats masterfully reversed reality after January 6, labeling peaceful patriotic protesters as insurrectionists and framing the event as a violent coup attempt orchestrated by Trump, even though there was no evidence of armed rebellion or intent to overthrow the government,” which reiterates ideas promoted by Trump about this event, such as, for example, that this was actually a “peaceful march.”
Likewise, the White House website accuses the Capitol Police of “aggressively firing tear gas, flashbang grenades and rubber bullets into the crowd of peaceful protesters, injuring many and deliberately increasing tension.”
“Video evidence shows officers inexplicably removing barricades, opening the doors of the Capitol, and even beckoning attendees into the building – actions that facilitated entry – while simultaneously deploying violent force against others. These incoherent and provocative tactics turned a peaceful demonstration into chaos,” says the US Presidency.
Shortly after entering his second term in January 2025, Trump pardoned nearly 1,270 people convicted of the assault on the Capitol, ordered the Justice Department to dismiss about 300 criminal cases and called for the release of about 14 defendants who were charged in serious sedition cases.
Just over 2,000 people broke into the Capitol in January 2021 to try to prevent congressmen from confirming Biden’s victory in the November 2020 presidential election, after Trump himself encouraged his followers to address Congress and “fight with all their might” against elections that he has repeatedly denounced as fraudulent.
