According to the Mizan news agency, spokesman for the Iranian Judiciary, Ali Ardestani spied for the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence and security service.
The executed this Wednesday (7) a man convicted of spying for , state media reported, amid ongoing protests and growing tensions between Tehran and Israeli authorities. “The death penalty against Ali Ardestani for spying for the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence and security service, was carried out this morning (Wednesday),” announced the Mizan news agency, spokesman for the Iranian Judiciary, without specifying the date of his arrest or trial.
On December 28, demonstrations against hyperinflation and the economic crisis began in Tehran. These protests, initially against the high cost of living, evolved into a political movement that spread across the country. These are the most intense demonstrations since those of 2022-2023, following the death of a woman arrested for violating the women’s dress code.
In recent days, the Iranian press has reported the arrest of several people identified as Mossad agents.
The Judiciary, however, did not establish any connection between this execution and the ongoing protests.
Iran, which does not recognize Israel, has long accused it of carrying out sabotage operations against its nuclear facilities and murdering its scientists.
The Mossad recently made a public appeal to Iranian protesters to intensify their mobilization, declaring its presence “on the ground.”
