On Tuesday (6) the company announced the details of its new factory in Fazenda Rio Grande (PR). The unit designed to manufacture white goods is the result of an investment of R$1.5 billion and completely nationalizes the South Korean company’s refrigerator production in Brazil.
Scheduled to open in July, the plant covers 770,000 square meters with an initial production capacity of up to 500,000 refrigerators per year. By 2027, the manufacturing of washing and drying machines must also be adapted.
The initial focus on refrigerators has a strategic reason. After years of being more linked to the premium segment, LG moved strategically by aggressively entering the intermediate segment, of duplex and reverse equipment, responsible for 82% of sales in Brazil, according to the company.
According to the company, Brazil sells 4.8 million refrigerators per year, generating R$ 16.4 billion and, although the premium segment remains relevant, the real dispute for volume is in the intermediary. LG’s idea is to move away from an aspirational stance in order to achieve greater sales.
Now the company has also expanded its distribution strategy. By July 2025, LG has tripled the number of positions at points of sale. By 2026, the expectation is to at least triple this number again.
