German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz stated that the United States agreed to provide a security guarantee for Ukraine in comments made after a meeting of leaders of the so-called “Coalition of the Willing” at the Elysee Palace in Paris to discuss the war this Tuesday (6).
Praise for security guarantees with American support and a detailed plan to strengthen Kiev in the long term – including the deployment of British and French troops after a ceasefire – were the points raised by participants after the meeting.
French President Emmanuel Macron said the Paris meeting resulted in unprecedented unity between the Coalition of the Willing, Ukraine and the United States on the central dimension of security guarantees for a just and durable peace in Ukraine.

Spain, as a country that defends a rules-based international order, must be part of this effort, said the country’s prime minister, Pedro Sanchez, in a press conference broadcast on his X account.
“We are ready to consolidate peace in Ukraine with a military presence,” said the prime minister, citing that he will consult the Chamber on how Spanish participation will take place in the effort to put an end to the invasion of Ukraine.
“Today in Paris, Europe, the USA, Canada and other countries spoke with one voice about security guarantees and the future of Ukraine,” said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. “But I remain skeptical about Russia’s intentions. What we need is strong pressure on them, with all the economic and political measures we have at our disposal.”
