In May 2025, the 38-year-old star, who has not yet decided whether he will participate in the 2026 World Cup, took his first steps in this direction by becoming a member of the Deportivo LSM club
The Argentine star stated that he would like to own a club when he hangs up his boots, in an interview published this Tuesday (6), in which he also spoke about his family life, his personality and even his taste for drinks. “Actually, I don’t see myself as a coach. I like the idea of being a manager, but if I had to choose between the three, I would prefer to be an owner”, said the ‘Albiceleste’ captain to the Argentine streaming channel Luzu TV, in an interview recorded in December.
“I would like to have my own club (…) start from the bottom and be able to give children, people, the opportunity to grow and make an important club”, added Messi, smiling more than in most of his contacts with the press. In May 2025, the 38-year-old star, who has not yet decided whether he will participate in the 2026 World Cup, took his first steps in this direction by becoming a member of the Deportivo LSM club, a project of his great friend Luis Suárez, which competes in the youth categories of Uruguayan football.
During the interview, Messi also gave details of his bond with his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, and claimed to be romantic, although he didn’t show it. “I know I’m quite weird. I really like being alone”, he joked, admitting that he is “very methodical”. “I’m a big sucker for things, keeping everything to myself, keeping my problems to myself. I’ve changed a lot, but I’m still like that”, added the Inter Miami captain, who acknowledged that he underwent therapy when he played for Barcelona because of the way he is.
The Argentine also spoke about his habit of cursing himself when things are not going well. “I had a lot of bad games where I was terrible or one-on-one situations, where I missed a goal, and I called myself names. I cursed myself a lot.” Messi also spoke about the moment he left the Argentine national team after losing three consecutive finals between 2014 and 2016 (one World Cup and two Copa América): “I regretted it a lot because I watched the national team’s games and wanted to die. It’s less bad that I was able to return.”
“The best example is to never give up, keep trying. Whatever it is. Fall, get up and try again. And if you don’t, know that you did everything possible to achieve your dream”, he highlighted. During the conversation, number 10 said that he is not much of a dancer, that he only gets excited when he drinks a little and said that his favorite alcoholic drink is wine, which he sometimes mixes with Sprite “to take effect faster”.
