One of the best-known names in sports narration on SporTV in recent years, Odinei Ribeiro is no longer part of Grupo Globo after 18 years at the company. The farewell took place on December 27th, when the announcer commanded the broadcast of the classic between Vasco and Flamengo, on Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB).

Why did Odinei Ribeiro leave Globo?

The departure was officially confirmed this Tuesday (6), with the return of sports professionals after the end-of-year break. In a statement to the ‘Outro Canal’ column, by journalist Gabriel Vaquer, the broadcaster confirmed Odinei Ribeiro’s departure.

In a statement to the column, Odinei explained that the decision came from him.

– It was completely my choice. We had a very calm conversation. I’m looking for new dreams – said the narrator. He doesn’t have a new station and is studying possibilities for continuing his career.

Who is Odinei Ribeiro?

Born in Itanhaém, in the interior of São Paulo, Odinei Ribeiro began his career at Anchieta radio, in the city itself, where he began to follow the path towards sports narration. Afterwards, he went to Santos, where he gained greater professional prominence.

Between 1999 and 2005, he worked at Rádio Record and was part of the team of the renowned narrator Fiori Gigliotti (1928–2006). In 2004, balancing radio, he started narrating matches on TV Tribuna, a Globo affiliate on the coast of São Paulo, a period in which he became known as “the voice of Santos Futebol Clube”, covering Libertadores games and other competitions.

The prominence in broadcasts opened doors on SporTV. In 2007, he made occasional appearances on the channel, until being hired in 2008. Since then, he has become a frequent presence in games for teams such as Corinthians, Palmeiras and São Paulo, in addition to working in other sports.
