US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told US lawmakers that the Trump administration’s recent threats against Greenland do not indicate an imminent invasion, and that the aim is to buy the island from Denmark. The information is from the newspaper The Wall Street Journal.
The statements were reportedly made during a closed meeting with Congress leaders this Monday (5).
According to the newspaper, Rubio highlighted that President Trump considers the acquisition of Greenland a national security priority for the United States, essential to contain adversaries in the Arctic region.

During the meeting, according to the WSJ, Rubio responded to questions about the use of military force in other countries, such as Mexico and Greenland, and emphasized that the administration is seeking negotiations to obtain legal control over the island.
The White House says the president has discussed a range of options to achieve that goal, including the use of military forces.
