Russia says US seizure of oil tanker violates maritime law

Moscow said contact with the ship, ‌the Marinera, was lost ‍after U.S. naval forces boarded it.

Russia ⁠said this Wednesday (7) ‍that it was a violation of ‌maritime law.

“According to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, freedom of navigation applies on the high seas, and no State has the right to use force against ships duly registered in the jurisdictions of other States,” the Ministry of Transport said in a statement.

He ‍said contact with the ship, ‌the Marinera, was lost‍after U.S. naval forces boarded it.
