The United States has a three-phase plan for further development in Venezuela. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made the announcement on Wednesday after presenting the plan to members of the Senate in a closed session. TASR informs about it based on a report by Reuters and NBC News.
In this context, he mentioned the vision of US President Donald Trump, who announced on Tuesday on his Truth Social platform that he will personally oversee the sale of 30-50 million barrels of Venezuelan oil at market prices. The profits from this sale will be distributed in a way “that will benefit the Venezuelan people,” Rubio said.
“The second phase will be what we call the recovery phase,” Rubio continued. Its goal is to ensure that American, Western and other companies have fair access to the Venezuelan market. It also includes reconciliation within Venezuela so that opposition leaders can be amnestied and released or returned to their homelands and the restoration of civil society can begin.
According to Rubio, the third phase will be a transition phase. “We are confident that we will move forward here in a very positive way. Ultimately, it will be up to the Venezuelan people to transform their country,” stated the head of US diplomacy.
Opposition Democrats said they were shocked by the plans but did not know the details. They also do not agree that they cannot be discussed at public meetings.
“They’re talking about stealing Venezuela’s oil under threat of violence indefinitely so they can run the country at every level. The scale and insanity of this plan is absolutely stunning,” said Chris Murphy, a Democratic senator from Connecticut.
The United States attacked Venezuela on Saturday and kidnapped its president Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. Both were taken by special forces to the USA, where they are awaiting trial. Former Vice President Delcy Rodríguez became the interim president of Venezuela, from whom Washington demands obedience to follow the instructions of the Trump administration.
