- Donald Trump has questioned whether NATO would provide the same support to the US.
- The president highlighted US influence on China and Russia under his leadership.
The United States will always stand by NATO, even if the Alliance does not stand by the US. US President Donald Trump announced this on Wednesday. In a post on his Truth Social network, he also questioned whether allies would do the same for the US if necessary. He also expressed his belief that the only country China and Russia respect and fear is the United States under his leadership. TASR informs about it.
The head of the White House also complained that Norway, a member of NATO, did not award him the Nobel Peace Prize for – in his words – single-handedly ending eight wars. “But it doesn’t matter! What matters is that I saved millions of lives,” he stated.
In connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has been going on for almost four years now, he also stated that without his involvement, Russia would currently be in control of all of Ukraine. “RUSSIA AND CHINA ARE NOT AFRAID OF NATO AT ALL WITHOUT THE UNITED STATES AND I DOUBT THAT NATO WOULD BE WITH US IF WE REALLY NEEDED IT,” the US president wrote on Truth Social. “We will always stand by NATO, even if they don’t stand by us,” he added.
Trump released his statement amid fears of a resurgence of his plans to take control of Greenland, which is an autonomous territory of Denmark. In recent days, Trump has repeatedly stated that the United States needs Greenland for national security reasons. The European leaders, Denmark and Greenland, strongly objected to these statements.
The White House said on Tuesday that one option to get Greenland is “always” using the US military. The head of US diplomacy, Marco Rubio, said on Wednesday that the US is interested in buying Greenland, not conquering it militarily.
