Unemployment in Portugal reaches a minimum of 23 years

The unemployment rate fell to 5.7% in November 2025, 0.1 percentage points less than in October and 0.9 percentage points below November 2024, according to the provisional estimate released today by INE.

Unemployment dropped to 5.7% in November and touched minimum 23 years old.

According to the Monthly Employment and Unemployment Estimates published today, the unemployment rate, estimated at 5.7%, reached the lowest value since February 2002 (5.6%).

INE revised downwards the unemployment rate for the month of October 2025, from the initially estimated 5.9% to 5.8%, a value 0.2 percentage points lower than that of September 2025, 0.1 percentage points lower than that of July of the same year and 0.8 percentage points lower than that of October 2024.

With the improvement in the job marketthe unemployed population fell from 327.8 thousand in October to 318.8 thousand in November.

The number highlighted above represents a decrease compared to the three comparison periods: the previous month (9.0 thousand; 2.7%), three months before (17.8 thousand; 5.3%) and the same month of 2024 (41.1 thousand; 11.4%).
