US President says that Delcy Rodríguez agreed to transfer large volumes of oil and that Washington will control the resources obtained from sales
The President of the United States, stated this Tuesday (7) that the government of now led by interim president Delcy Rodríguez, is willing to deliver 30 million to 50 million barrels of oil that will be sold on the American market.
In a post on the social network Truth Social, the president classified these barrels as “high quality oil authorized in the United States”. Trump added that he will be in charge of controlling the money from the sale of oil in the local market “to ensure that it is used for the benefit of the Venezuelan people and the United States.”
The decision of the government of of taking over Venezuelan oil comes after the capture of Nicolás Maduro on January 3, in a military operation in Caracas and surrounding areas that left more than 50 people dead, many of them Cuban agents who provided security for the president of the South American country.
According to Trump, the Department of Energy, led by Secretary Chris Wright, will be responsible for implementing the oil extraction plan immediately.
The millions of barrels will be transported in tankers directly to docks in the United States, according to the American president, who has not set a time frame for the transfer of the oil.
The announcement was made 24 hours after Delcy Rodríguez, Maduro’s vice president, assumed power in Venezuela provisionally as interim president. The Trump administration immediately recognized her as its interlocutor and claimed “full access” to Venezuelan oil and other resources.
Csaa Branca also reported that Delcy is “cooperating”, and the interim president herself was willing to work on a joint agenda without ceasing to demand Maduro’s return.
Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world, but several experts have pointed out that its production is far below its potential due to years of sanctions and lack of investment.
