Zuza, the name chosen by and for the couple’s first daughter, draws attention not only for its emotional value – in honor of the singer’s grandmother –, but also for its rarity. Data from the 2022 Demographic Census, from IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), helps to measure how much the choice is unusual in Brazil.
According to the survey, there are no records of people with Zuza as their first name in the country since 1979. Between 1960 and 1979, the period in which the name last appeared with any frequency, only 23 records were recorded. Today, the median age of people named Zuza in Brazil is 52 years old.
Another curious fact is the demographic profile associated with the name. Also according to IBGE, 76.2% of people registered as Zuza are men, and the highest concentration is in the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais. In the general ranking, Zuza occupies 344th position among names starting with the letter Z in Brazil.

Rafa Kalimann and Nattan’s daughter was born on Tuesday (6), at Hospital e São Luiz, in São Paulo. The choice of name, however, goes beyond different sounds or statistical exclusivity. Zuza is a direct tribute to the singer’s grandmother, Josefina, known to everyone by the affectionate nickname she now christens the baby.
The information that the name would be Zuza, if the couple had a girl, was revealed during the pregnancy announcement, on June 3 last year. At the time, Rafa and Nattan appeared in a video reading letters to each other, already anticipating the special meaning of the choice.
Josefina, Nattan’s grandmother, died at the end of April last year and played a central role in the artist’s training. She was the one who raised him and who he always referred to as a second mother. In an emotional tribute, the singer highlighted the importance of his grandmother in his life and the support he received from Rafa Kalimann at that delicate moment.
“My grandmother passed away last week. She was a fundamental piece in my life, she was my second mother. Rafaella, always sweet and generous, was by my side the entire time. It had everything to be the most terrible moment. But now, speaking directly to you: you changed everything”, wrote Nattan at the time.
Thus, Zuza arrives into the world carrying a rare name, almost extinct in official records, but full of memory, affection and personal meaning — a choice that transforms statistics into history.
