Brazil’s soybean exports in January could equal 2024 record, indicates Anec

São Paulo (Reuters) – Brazilian soybean exports are expected to reach 2.40 million tons in January, a level that would equal the historical record recorded in 2024, according to data from the National Association of Cereal Exporters (Anec) published this Thursday (8).

The volume, predicted based on the schedule of ships in ports, represents more than double the total of 1.12 million tons recorded in the same month last year, according to Anec.

At a time when Brazil is just beginning to harvest the new crop, the largest shipments in January occur after rains delayed exports scheduled for December, according to an assessment by Anec.

Furthermore, the largest global producer and exporter of soybeans ended last year with higher stocks after record production, according to data from another sector association, Abiove, which indicated almost 7 million tons.

In 2024, Brazil exported 2.4 million tons in January, while in 2023 shipments were below 1 million tons.

Export projections are updated by Anec weekly throughout the month, which implies possible revisions to the current projection, which may generally occur due to delays in shipments, in the case of adverse weather conditions.

But the country has plenty of capacity to export more — January is usually a month of smaller shipments. At the monthly maximum of 2025, soybean exports reached 15.7 million tons in March.

HAS ReutersAnec stated that the “lineup” of ships will change “a lot” by the end of the month, highlighting that the volume could exceed the maximum of 2024. “We have the capacity for this,” he said.

Anec’s expectations are for a new increase in soybean exports from Brazil in 2026, even considering that China will start purchasing more oilseeds from the United States following the trade truce between the countries, given the prospect of another voluminous harvest.

The trading association projects 112 million tons, compared to 108.68 million in 2025, with greater sales to markets other than China, as Anec predicted the day before to Reuters.

On the other hand, corn exports are expected to fall this month to 2.85 million tons, compared to 3.19 million tons observed in January 2025.

Brazil’s soybean meal exports are expected to reach 1.64 million tons in the first month of 2026, practically the same volume recorded a year earlier.

This year, soybean meal exports will also be records, with Anec estimating 24 million tons, versus the previous maximum of 23 million tons in 2025.

Corn exports would be 44 million tons in 2026, said Mendes, against 41.59 million in 2025, according to Anec figures. The total would still be below the 2023 record of 55.67 million tons.

Brazil is also one of the largest exporters of corn and soybean meal.
