“I left him behind and I will bring him back”, wrote the young woman in a letter supposedly left by her, in the early hours of Saturday (3).
Thayane’s manifestation came to light after the repercussions of the case and the accusation that she had abandoned her friend on the trail. In the manuscript, the young woman states that she was the last person to see Roberto before his disappearance and that she had the support of a group of runners, with whom she kept in touch via WhatsApp.
She also says that the travelers only helped her climb the mountain and, at around 4 am, without authorization from the Fire Department, it was just hers.
In the stories published next to the letter, thayan stated that this would be and thanked the runners who helped her in the search for Roberto.
However, the young man was only found on Monday (5), when he managed to reach the base of Pico, with several , after walking for more than 20 km.

In an interview with Live CNNon Tuesday morning (6), Roberto stated that he had not yet spoken to Thayane and that he found out everything through his sister, Renata Thomaz.
“I didn’t know that there were all these people looking for me, I had no idea, but I was sure that my sister would be looking for me”, reported Roberto.
He too, claiming that he spent days without eating, relying only on the water he managed to filter from the waterfall.
“On the days that I was on this waterfall trail, there was only the waterfall, a little water, which I could get to drink a little, because I didn’t know what the condition of the water was,” he said.
