The candidate for the presidential elections, António José Seguro
The case of the man who died after waiting for 3 hours at INEM. “I’ve never been quick to ask for heads, but…”
New case to shake the functioning of Health in Portugal, more specifically the coordination between INEM, CODU and firefighters.
A man, this Tuesday, in Seixal, after almost three hours waiting for help from INEM. The “fault” was either the lack of ambulances, or the new triage system, or the fact that firefighters don’t even know anything about it.
The presidential candidate António José Seguro he appeared “completely irritated and indignant” with the health situation, criticizing precisely the “blame-passing”.
“Unfortunately, cases like these happen every day and leave them completely irritated, not to use another word, indignant. You can’t play with the health of the Portuguese”, commented Seguro.
In Seguro’s opinion, this only demonstrates “the urgency of having a solid commitment around health”, with the pact he proposed in this area being his priority if he is elected President of the Republic in the January 18 elections.
“Others worry about who is to blame. This blame passing thing is also a problem. I want solutions. We have to change the political culture in Portugal”, he said, asked who is responsible for these cases.
For the candidate supported by the PS, the difficulty in accessing healthcare “is an indignity”.
“And therefore, it also irritates me a lot that there are other candidates or parties that say they are not available to make their contribution”, he criticized, without specifying the names.
João Cotrim de Figueiredo He is not in the habit of asking for resignations, but the scenario surrounding minister Ana Paula Martins causes a slight change in his speech.
“I would seriously recommend, in this personal contact with the Prime Minister, that he replace the Minister of Health. (…) I was never quick to ask for heads. I am not. I think that the composition of governments is up to the prime ministers and the wrong composition will be judged by the Portuguese. But, in a case like this, the cases involving Minister Ana Paula Martins are already excessive.”, shot the candidate supported by IL.
Andre Ventura turned directly to Ana Paula Martins: “I told you today: madam minister, it’s the last time I tell you that no one can die in Portugal due to lack of medical care”.
“And, if it happens again, it’s not the country’s fault, it’s your incompetence. And we, in a good Government, don’t reward the incompetent – we throw them out on the street, which is how it should be”, added the president of Chega.
Competence was also the approach of Catarina Martins. But the candidate supported by BE went further: “It’s starting to be difficult to believe that it’s just incompetence. Because, finally, there will be some purpose of destruction of the SNS”.
Gouveia e Melo focused on responsibilities. That are not fixed on one person: “The last people responsible are the prime ministers. They choose the ministers.”
“It is very easy to point to individual responsibility, but there is also a group responsibility, a responsibility of our culture, often a improvisation culture, a culture of low demands”, warned the admiral in reserve.
Antonio Filipesupported by the PCP, emphasizes that the choice of members of the Government is up to responsibility of Luís Montenegro: “And it is the prime minister who has to assume this responsibility.”
