Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shoots woman during Minneapolis protests: Donald Trump talks self-defense

US President Donald Trump has sided with the agent who fatally shot a 37-year-old American woman during a crackdown on migrants. While Trump talks about a deliberate car attack on a police officer based on the video, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called the federal agent’s actions reckless and rejects the version of self-defense.

US President Donald Trump said that the agent of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) who fatally shot a woman in the city of Minneapolis on Wednesday acted in self-defense. Trump accused the deceased woman of a “violent, intentional and brutal” car attack. TASR took over the report from the AFP agency.

  • Trump defends ICE agent who fatally shot woman.
  • According to Trump, it was an agent’s self-defense due to a car attack.
  • The incident took place during protests against ICE security crackdowns.
  • Mayor Frey accused ICE of intimidation and reckless conduct.

Alleged self-defense

“I just watched the video of the incident that took place in Minneapolis. It’s horrifying to see… The woman behind the wheel was very agitated, resisted and then violently, intentionally and brutally struck an ICE agent who apparently shot her in self-defense,” Trump said on his Truth Social social network. According to him, the agent is currently “recovering in hospital”.

“We are investigating the full extent of the situation, but the reason for these incidents is that the radical left threatens, attacks and targets our police officers and ICE agents on a daily basis,” the US president continued. He added that these people are just “trying to do their job to keep America safe.”

Shooting during the protest

The shooting in Minneapolis took place during a protest by local residents, who clashed for several hours with security forces carrying out an intervention against migrants. According to local media, their victim was 37-year-old US citizen Renee Nicole Goodová.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said the agent responsible for the woman’s death acted recklessly and rejected claims by the Department of Homeland Security that it was self-defense. According to him, ICE officers came to the city to cause chaos and cause mistrust.
