The Italian Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, of the government, said from Brussels that “if the necessary guarantees for producers become official, Italy will sign the European Union’s agreement with”.
“Italy is a country that exports agricultural products. We have always emphasized that we see positively the international agreements that aim to eliminate tariffs, except in cases where some elements of logic are called into question,” added Lollobrigida, before the start of the meeting of the Union’s agriculture ministers with the relevant European commissioners.
(Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay) was postponed last December, following objections from Italy and other countries of the Union, which concerned the effects of imports from Latin America, and the need to protect European farmers.
