The 78-year-old man called INEM for help for the first time at 11:20 on Tuesday, and this situation was classified as priority 3 – which foresees the activation of resources within 60 minutes – but a medical vehicle was only sent at 2:09 pm, almost three hours later.

“INEM’s response was given within what was the expected deadline of 60 minutes, that is, after 15 minutes we made our first attempt to activate resources. Unfortunately, (…) there is a very significant limitation of ambulances, mainly on the South Bank, due to the retention of these ambulances in health units”, he explains.

New screening system generates criticism

On Friday, INEM announced the start of a (Urgent Patients Operational Center), which provides five priority levels (emergency, very urgent, urgent, slightly urgent and non-urgent)similar to the screening used in hospitals.

Those that are not very urgent expect the means to arrive at the location within 120 minutes.
