Rubio wants to meet with Danish officials next week to discuss Greenland

The US Secretary of State, , said he plans to meet with Danish officials next week, after the administration of the American president, , reaffirms its intention to take control of , the strategic Arctic island that is an autonomous territory of Denmark and rich in critical raw materials.

“Trump is not the first US president who has examined or considered how we could acquire Greenland,” he said on Wednesday (7).

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and his Greenlandic counterpart Vivian Motzfeldt had requested a meeting with Rubio, according to a statement posted Tuesday on the Greenland government website. Previous requests for a meeting were unsuccessful, the statement said.

Rubio told a select group of U.S. lawmakers that it was the Republican administration’s intention to eventually purchase Greenland rather than use military force.
