President Donald Trump signed a decree this Wednesday (7) ordering the withdrawal of the United States from 66 international organizations

The president signed a decree this Wednesday (7) ordering the withdrawal of 66 international organizations that “no longer serve national interests”, announced the White House. The order involves 31 United Nations organizations and 35 entities that do not belong to the UN, it said in a statement published on X, without naming them. This is not the first time the Republican has made this decision. At the beginning of his second term, he had already withdrawn Washington from several global entities in his second term.

As happened in his first term, Trump decided to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), to which Washington had returned under the presidency of Joe Biden.

Furthermore, it closed its doors to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Trump administration also largely reduced American aid abroad, which affected the budgets of numerous UN organizations that were forced to reduce their activities on the ground, such as the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Program (WFP).

From the rostrum of the United Nations General Assembly in September, Donald Trump launched a frontal attack against the UN, which, according to him, is “a long way from reaching its potential”.
