Trump phenomenon: the oil industries and the future of fossil energy

Podcast

The North American president makes a point of not hiding his objective of controlling and benefiting from Venezuela’s oil production. José Gomes Ferreira welcomes Clemente Pedro Nunes, Pedro Sampaio Nunes and João de Jesus Ferreira on Negócios da Semana podcast

Donald Trump goes further and ordered the seizure of two oil tankers loaded with crude, one heading from Venezuela to China and the other flying the flag of the Russian Federation. Meanwhile, the North American administration announced the start of negotiations with the Government of Denmark over Greenland, stressing that the use of force to control the territory is not ruled out.

But these episodes of growing international tension with the United States of America at the top show a much more structural reality: war is open between the great powers for control of the world’s natural resources.

Clemente Pedro Nunes (businessman and manager, professor at Instituto Superior Técnico and author of books and articles on energy policies); Pedro Sampaio Nunes (specialist in energy issues, was Secretary of State for Science and Innovation and director general with several portfolios at the European Commission) and João de Jesus Ferreira (engineer at Instituto Superior Técnico, university professor, manager, scientific consultant and also author of in-depth studies on various aspects of the energy area) are José Gomes Ferreira’s guests on the podcast version of the Negócios da Semana program, broadcast on SIC Notícias on January 7th.

Business of the Week is a program by José Gomes Ferreira. The terms and realities of the national and international economy explained every week on SIC Notícias. It airs on television on Wednesdays at 11pm and is published as a podcast on Thursday. Listen to more episodes:
