“Ukraine is close to an agreement with the US on security guarantees,” Zelenskyy says about the finalization at the highest level

A draft document on US security guarantees for Ukraine is “substantially ready” to be presented to US President Donald Trump. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on social networks on Thursday, TASR writes, according to an AFP report.

  • The draft of American security guarantees for Ukraine is ready for finalization.
  • Zelensky announced that the document will be presented to US President Donald Trump.
  • The restoration and economic development of Ukraine were also discussed.
  • Negotiations include issues of ending the war and contacting Russia for feedback.
  • The topics of the talks are also the control of the eastern territories and the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.

“The bilateral document on security guarantees for Ukraine is basically ready for finalization at the highest level with the President of the United States,” Zelensky wrote on the X social network. “It is important that Ukraine is successfully combining the efforts of the European and American teams. Together we discussed, in particular, documents related to reconstruction and economic development,” the president added.

“Difficult issues from the basic framework for ending the war were also addressed, and the Ukrainian side presented the possibilities of finalizing this document. We understand that the American side will contact Russia, and we expect feedback on whether the aggressor is really willing to end the war,” wrote the president of Ukraine on the X network.

Zelensky announced on Wednesday that US and Ukrainian officials will discuss the “most complex issues” – specifically about the control of the territory in the east of Ukraine and the Russian-occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The American side is represented at the negotiations by the US President’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the Ukrainian chief negotiator is the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov.
