Vice-mayor of São Paulo, Bolsonarist Colonel Mello Araújo (PL) criticized the possibility of a veto of the Dosimetry PL by the president (PT), expected by allies for this Thursday (8), a date that marks three years of the coup attacks on the headquarters of the three Powers.
The PT member has already given indications that he will reduce the sentences of those convicted of the coup plot. This is expected to be done during a ceremony scheduled for 10am this Thursday at Palácio do Planalto.
“It is expected [o veto]. He only gives benefits to drug dealers and murderers, as he did at the end of the year. He does not defend the just and honorable”, Mello Araújo told the Panel.
Mello Araújo referred, in his speech, to 2025 and that he excluded, again, those convicted of the acts of January 8, 2023.
The pardon is a collective forgiveness of sentences, provided for in the Constitution, for specific cases. The decree does not allow the benefit to leaders of criminal factions, to those who make plea bargains, and to those who committed crimes against children and adolescents and violence against women.
The former president (PL), of whom Mello Araújo is an ally, granted Christmas pardons during his four years in government (2019-2022), including military police, in São Paulo, in 1992.

Vice-mayor of the country’s largest capital, Mello Araújo said he hopes that a possible veto by Lula can be reversed, although he cites the fear that internal negotiations will change the scenario.
“I have hope, but power is enchanting and the amendments and benefits make some change sides,” he said.
The Dosimetry PL was approved by the Chamber by 291 votes in favor and 148 against, and by 48 in favor and 25 against. The two approvals took place last December and had the support of parties in the center, including parties with nominees working in the first echelon of the Lula government.
