What if Russia attacks Ukraine again? Zelenskyy remained unanswered

O presidente da Ucrânia, Volodymyr Zelenskyy

President of Ukraine wanted to know how Europeans would react in the event of another Russian attack against Ukraine after the end of the war.

The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, admitted that he “did not receive a clear answer” from his European allies on how they would react in the event of another Russian attack on Ukraine after the end of the war.

“It’s a very difficult question (…) And it’s exactly the question I’ve been asking all our partners. So far, I have not received a clear and unambiguous answer“, Zelenskyy told journalists, a day after a summit in Paris, where Kiev received promises of security guarantees from the West.

The Ukrainian President said he saw “willing policy” among Ukraine’s allies to provide “robust security guarantees”, but argued that these guarantees should be legally binding binding and “supported by the Parliaments, supported by the Congress of the United States”.

Zelenskyy further stated that Ukraine must maintain an army of 800 thousand soldiers to guarantee its security — twice the size of the French and British armies combined — and to be “equipped with adequate weapons”.

“It is important that we strive to ensure the financing of all this”, highlighted the Ukrainian President, whose country now depends largely on European financial and military support.

After the Paris summit on Tuesday, the 35 member countries of the “Coalition of the Willing”, mainly Europeans, agreed to send a multinational force to Ukraine and participate in monitoring a possible ceasefire under US leadership, as soon as a hypothetical agreement with Russia is reached.

Russia has repeatedly rejected any deployment of Western forces to Ukraine in the past, which it considers to be a red line in peace talks.

Moscow invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
