Critic of Bolsonarism, she moved closer to the left and gained prominence after breaking up with her father
Heloísa de Carvalho Martin Arribas, eldest daughter of the writer (1948-2022), , in the interior of . The body was found inside the house by a friend. The Civil Police confirmed that the case was registered at the Atibaia Police Station, but reported that, due to the nature of the death, it will not disclose details. The cause of death was not reported.
A resident of Atibaia for more than three decades, Heloísa gained prominence in the public debate in 2018, when she began to openly criticize her father, considered an ideological reference for Bolsonarism. The break between the two became public and involved legal disputes, accusations and out-of-court settlements.
In 2021, she joined the PT and declared that her political activities were aimed at confronting Bolsonarism. He also reported having an affinity with social issues and said he had contact with party figures. The affiliation marked a contrast with Olavo’s conservative legacy, which projected right-wing thinking and influenced sectors of the government.
The family tension extended to episodes linked to national politics. In 2020, Heloísa commented on the networks about the presence of a former advisor in Atibaia who was being investigated on suspicion of “rachadinha”, who would be arrested in the municipality days later.
Heloísa also published a book with personal stories and criticisms of her father. The episode resulted in Olavo’s actions for defamation and a legal agreement in which she removed content from the networks and the writer ended the litigation.
Despite her activism on the left, Heloísa lived discreetly in Atibaia, with little exposure beyond networks and politics. Brother Davi de Carvalho announced the death on a social network and asked for prayers, stating that he will not make any further statements about the case.
The wake will be held this Friday (9), with burial in the São Sebastião cemetery, both in Atibaia.
