Extreme frost and snow, according to foreign meteorologists, this is the forecast for part of Europe for the next few days. The Polish portal points out that is approaching the so-called “Arctic explosion”, which may bring significant cooling and temperatures falling well below freezing. The new year has only recently started and it is already clear that winter has not yet said the last word.
Experts warn that extremely cold weather can last longer and, in addition to severe frosts, you must also prepare for snowfallwhich will complicate the situation in many regions. It currently affects the southern regions of Poland, but it can also move beyond our territory, especially to northern and northeastern regions of the country.
In mountain and foothills, such as the Tatras, Orava, Liptov and upper Spiš, temperatures can drop significantly below zero and heavy snowfall is also expected. After sunset, the frost will deepen and in some locations will drop to -15 °C. The most challenging situation will be in the foothills, where the combination of snow and arctic cold can make transportation and outdoor movement difficult.
According to meteorologists from the portal, the coldest days of this winter await us. The coldest day will be Friday, January 9. Temperatures will drop significantly below zero, -5 to -12 °C is expected. In valleys and basins, temperatures can sometimes drop to around -15 °C.
It will be clear in most areas, the wind will weaken and it will be extremely cold, especially in the valleys. Temperatures could drop to -10 °C in Bratislava. By Friday morning, temperatures will drop to -7 to -15 °C, while in lower-lying areas of central Slovakia, the temperature can sometimes drop to -15 to -22 °C.
In the coldest locations temperatures will drop below -25°C and some places may even reach -30°C. Maximum daily temperatures rise to only -9 to -1 °C. Originally there was still a chance for the occurrence of the so-called arctic day – i.e. a day when the maximum temperature does not rise above -10 °C, but according to the current models, it probably won’t happen anymore.
The forecast indicates that next Saturday, January 10, we will have only a slight warming. Warmer air should reach us from the west, but it won’t stay here for long. As early as Sunday, January 11, another cold front will arrive, and if the forecasts come true, temperatures could be even colder than we have tasted.
