Who are the five Spaniards released by Venezuela
The new Venezuelan authorities, led by Delcy Rodríguez, announced yesterday the release of five Spanish prisoners as a “unilateral gesture of peace.” Four of them have exclusively Spanish nationality and the fifth has dual Spanish-Venezuelan nationality. These are the five released, as confirmed by diplomatic sources:
Andrés Martínez Adasme (32 years old, Basque Country) and José María Basoa (35 years old, Basque Country). They were on tourism in the Amazon, they were arrested after the elections of July 28, 2024, whose victory was fraudulently attributed to the regime. They were accused of being CNI agents, which the Spanish secret service denied, and of being part of an alleged terrorist conspiracy to kill Nicolás Maduro organized by the CIA for which American citizens and other nationalities were also detained.
Michael Moreno (34 years old, Canary Islands). He is a journalist, he was captured last June along with the other crew members of the treasure hunting ship N35 when he was exploring the seabed in waters that Venezuela claims as its own.
Ernesto Gorbe (52 years old, Valencian Community). He had resided in Venezuela for a long time, but was subjected to extortion and arrested in 2024 after being left in an irregular situation due to his visa having expired.
Rocío San Migueldual Spanish and Venezuelan nationality. She is a lawyer, human rights defender and director of the NGO Control Ciudadano. A professor at the Central University of Venezuela, she was arbitrarily detained in February 2024, she did not have access to a lawyer and she received late treatment for a fracture that must be operated on, according to Amnesty International, which demanded her immediate release.
