The nurse director of the Amadora-Sintra hospital says she resigned because the hospital has been without a director on the Board of Directors for two months.

The nurse director of the Local Health Unit (ULS) Amadora-Sintra explains, in an interview with SIC Notícias, that the decision to resign from her position was motivated by the governmental impasse at the institution and the lack of support from the guardianship.

“I considered that I could not continue waiting for a decision from the minister as to who would replace the president of the Board of Directors”, who resigned in November, explains Luísa Ximenes.

“I waited for there to be a direction, for there to be a word, because I continued to carry out my duties in full. I, and the remaining members of the Board of Directors (…) were fundamental structural measures that I had initiated, I had to continue them, and I had no idea whether I would continue for another month, two more, three more.”

Luísa Ximenes says she never felt support or recognition from the Minister of Health and was surprised by the Prime Minister for keeping Ana Paula Martins in the position.

“I was astonished to have heard the Prime Minister say that health problems could not be solved with dismissals, talking about a Minister of Health who is a leader in dismissals and who in two years subjected the hospital to two administrations.”

The nurse believes that Amadora-Sintra’s problems are due to a lack of management.

“Medical emergency professionals are exceptional, they cannot do more than they are doing. It is not possible. There are not enough doctors due to a total lack of management of medical rosters.”

In a statement sent to newsrooms this Thursday, the Board of Directors of informed that and the nursing team of the General Emergency Service presented a declaration of disclaimer.

This after the and fromhave decided to resign from their positions in recent days.

The president of ULS Amadora-Sintra, Carlos Sá, resigned at the beginning of November last year, following a case that involved the death of a pregnant woman.
