The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro arrested the man who shot a dogin Magé, in Baixada Fluminense. The man was found hiding on Thursday afternoon (8) in Piabetá, also in the municipality of Magé.
According to the police, last Saturday (3), the man attacked and pointed a gun at a neighbor, at which point the victim’s dog, upon realizing that its owner was being threatened, barked in the suspect’s direction.
On that occasion, the man shot the dog and the victim five times, with four shots. Luke, the three-year-old dog, died at the scene. However, even after hitting the animal, the suspect shot the owner again, but missed.
The police say that, earlier this week, civil agents were at a property linked to the man, where a search and seizure was carried out.
The suspect was charged with animal cruelty aggravated by the result of death, attempted murder, possession of a firearm and threat.

Luke was shot dead last Saturday (03), on Rua Ernesto Teixeira, in Magé. Security camera footage shows the moment the man approaches, shoots the dogwho still tries to run before falling on the spot.
According to the Fogo Cruzado Institute, this is the first recorded in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro in 2026, with a total of one animal killed in the period.
