The Municipality of Portimão reaffirmed its commitment to supporting families in the municipality with greater difficulties in accessing housing, highlighting that “the Municipality of Portimão continues to make a strong commitment to supporting families in the municipality with greater difficulties in accessing housing, through the rental support subsidy”.
According to the municipality, “at the beginning of 2026 this measure already covers 545 households”, representing “a global annual investment of around 1.9 million euros, fully supported by the Municipality”. This support translates into “a significant average monthly contribution for each beneficiary family, between €275 and €350”.
Program open to new applications
The Municipality clarifies that “the subsidy is paid by the Portimão City Council upon monthly proof of payment of rent”, highlighting that, “in a context of strong pressure on the real estate market, especially in the Algarve”, this support constitutes “a structuring social response, essential to prevent situations of vulnerability and housing exclusion”.
The municipality also informs that “the rental support program is open to new applications”, being available to “all families who, meeting the legally defined criteria, need support to cover housing costs”.
