SP spends R$5 million on pensions for veterans from 1932 – 01/09/2026 – Panel

The plan plans to spend, in 2026, R$5.6 million on family members of combatants. The amount was disclosed in the State Budget for this year.

Today, 519 people receive the benefit, provided for in the State Constitution since 1978 for widows, partners or dependents of participants. The value for each beneficiary is around R$912 per month.

The Revolution of 1932, which turns 94 years old in 2026, was an uprising against what had dissolved the National Congress and determined that interveners chosen by Vargas himself would replace the state governors.

On May 23, 1932, four people killed in a demonstration against the government, in the center of São Paulo, became a symbol of the São Paulo uprising through — which brings together the initials of Martins, Miragaia, Dráusio and Camargo, their respective names.

The armed confrontation began on July 9 of that year, a date that is now a public holiday in the state of São Paulo as it marks the beginning of the revolution.

Historians point out that, although the movement of revolt against the Vargas government was born among the São Paulo elite, different sectors of society were engaged in the confrontation, which lasted four months and ended with the surrender of São Paulo in early October.

Pension grants to civilians who worked in the 1932 Revolution are examined by , linked to the Finance Secretariat.

“The Secretariat for Management and Digital Government of the State of São Paulo informs that the 2026 budget includes the estimate necessary to maintain the payment of pensions provided by law to former combatants from 1932 and their dependents. The benefit follows rules and legal ceiling, and the allocation only guarantees budgetary coverage for a mandatory expense”, says the São Paulo government in a note.
