Syria: Ceasefire in Aleppo – Satisfaction from the US

Συρία: Κατάπαυση πυρός στο Χαλέπι – Ικανοποίηση από τις ΗΠΑ

Its Ministry of Defense declared a ceasefire in three districts of Aleppo. This is movement that could be stopped

During the night we had a heavy exchange of fire. The defense ministry then gave the armed groups a six-hour window to leave the disputed areas.

The bloody standoff between Damascus and Kurdish authorities, who resist their integration into the central government, is a major problem for Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who has vowed to unite the country after 14 years of civil war.

“From 3:00 A.M. after midnight a ceasefire will come into effect in the Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyah and Bani Zaid neighborhoods of Aleppo city”the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

“Armed groups in the neighborhoods are asked to leave the area from 3:00 am. after midnight. The deadline is 09:00 AM. on Friday”. The fighting, which broke out on Tuesday, has killed at least seven civilians, according to Syrian authorities.

The ceasefire is vital

This development was welcomed by the US side. “The United States warmly welcomes the temporary ceasefire reached last night in the Ashrafiyeh and Sheikh Maqsoud districts of Aleppo and expresses its deep gratitude to all parties – the Syrian government, the Syrian Democratic Forces, local authorities and community leaders – for the restraint and goodwill that made this vital pause possible.

With continued cooperation and the grace of the One God whom all our communities revere in their own way, we hope this weekend will bring a more lasting calm and a deeper dialogue.

In times of crisis, a new clarity often emerges. This ceasefire marks the beginning of the vital work of guiding the divergent trajectories of Syria – its communities and neighboring countries – towards a single common path that will lead to security, integration and lasting peace. There will be obstacles, but our common destiny clearly favors cooperation over confrontation.

We are working intensively to extend this truce and spirit of understanding beyond the deadline.” Tom Barak said in a post Friday morning.
