According to the police department, Portland officers responded to a call for help on Thursday afternoon and found a couple – a man and a woman – with “apparent gunshot wounds.” There are no details about what motivated the police officers to open fire on the two victims.

“Officers applied a tourniquet and called emergency medical services. The two victims of the shooting were taken to a hospital, police said. Their condition is unknown,” said the ABC News.

The case comes one day after an ICE agent shot and killed a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Renee Nicole Good was a mother of three, writer and poet. The death, recorded in the same city where George Floyd was murdered, sparked a wave of outrage among residents, politicians and local authorities.

Portland City Council President Elana Pirtle-Guiney said during a council meeting that Thursday’s shooting occurred in the east part of the city and that two Portland residents were injured. “As far as we know, both are still alive, and we expect more positive updates throughout the afternoon,” he said.
