Rodney Johnston, 67, was sentenced to life in prison in the UK for forcing a woman to have sex with strangers for 30 years, with a minimum prison term of 16 years. According to Norwich Crown Court, Rodney took the victim to isolated places, such as roads, cars and forests, where he arranged meetings with one or more people for predatory sexual activity. The victim was forced to participate in orgies with up to 15 men, which were filmed and could take hours. Recounting her experiences, the woman, whose identity is protected by law, stated that she felt used and terrified.
“I ended up in a situation I never imagined I would live in. What I had to endure after that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I had no voice, no choice. I felt dirty, sick, used, degraded, humiliated and terrified, but that ended up becoming my normal,” she said in her statement. “I have anxiety about the future. For the first time in decades I am free.”
The investigation that discovered the scheme analyzed around 30 thousand media to prove the case of exploitation. Johston denied the allegations and claimed the encounters were consensual, but this argument was rejected by the jury.
After this stage, the investigation announced that up to a thousand other men could be charged with sexual crimes. Driven by the messages discovered, in addition to statements about possible other victims, the police encourage other women who have experienced abuse to take their statements to the police. Among the crimes Johnston was convicted of were coercion to have sexual intercourse under threat, witness intimidation and causing sexual activity without consent. Requests for parole can only be made after the minimum sentence has been served.
