Meta closes agreements with Oklo and Vistra to expand nuclear supply in the USA

Meta announced two distinct agreements aimed at expanding and supporting nuclear generation in according to statements released this Friday, 9. The partnerships involve Oklo and Vistra and are focused on ensuring clean and reliable energy for the company’s operations, especially data centers and projects linked to artificial intelligence (AI).

In Oklo’s case, the deal will support the development of a nuclear campus of up to 1.2 gigawatts in southern Ohio. According to the company, the understanding “provides a mechanism for Meta to pre-pay for energy and provide resources to advance project certainty”, enabling the implementation of reactors.

Oklo stated that the resources will be used to “secure nuclear fuel and advance Phase 1 of the project”, with pre-construction activities scheduled to begin in 2026 and the first phase coming into operation in 2030.

Vistra, in turn, signed 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Meta to supply more than 2.6 gigawatts of carbon-free nuclear electricity in the PJM region. According to the release, the agreements include 2,176 MW of operating generation and an additional 433 MW of increased power, which the company called “the largest nuclear upgrades ever supported by a corporate customer in the United States.”

In both announcements, Meta highlighted that it is investing in nuclear energy because it is a “clean and reliable” source, essential to sustain its operations and ambitions in AI. None of the statements disclosed the financial values ​​of the agreements.
