Nicaragua releases prisoners after US demand


Following a demand from the US, Nicaragua has announced the release of dozens of prisoners. The government of authoritarian President Daniel Ortega announced the move on Saturday without confirming the exact number or reasons for the detentions. Those released were political prisoners, opposition leader Ana Margarita Vijil told the Reuters news agency. Among them are former mayor Oscar Gadea and pastor Rudy Palacios.
