Repairs to the electrical system are underway in Ukraine. Kyiv is cut off from both water and heat

Kiev has been left without electricity, heat and water after massive Russian attacks, leaving thousands of apartment buildings uninhabitable. Repairs are underway, the situation is greatly worsened by strong frosts.

Kyiv’s electrical system, which was severely damaged by Russian attacks, was shut down for repairs at the behest of the state-owned power grid operator. This was announced by the Kyiv city administration on Saturday, TASR reports, according to the Reuters agency.

As a result of the power outage, the city’s water and heat distribution systems, as well as electrified public transport, also stopped working, the city administration said on the Telegram platform. According to her, repairs are currently underway, but she did not confirm how long the shutdown will last.

Damage caused by attacks

Russian attacks on Kiev on Friday night damaged the Ukrainian capital’s critical infrastructure, leaving half of the apartment buildings there – nearly 6,000 – without heat. The city also experienced outages in its water supply.

Ukraine responded to Moscow’s attacks. The governor of Russia’s Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported on Saturday that 600,000 residents there were left without electricity, heating and water as a result of a missile strike by Kiev.

Strong frosts worsen the situation

Reuters points out that temperatures in most of Russia and Ukraine have dropped well below freezing in recent days.
