At 11:30 am this Saturday (10), the city of Rio de Janeiro entered heat protocol level 3. City hall warned that this is the third of five stages that indicate heat lasting or increasing for at least three consecutive days.
On Friday (9), with the maximum predicted for 37°C. According to the Rio Alert System, the forecast points to a gradual increase in heat this weekend, with thermometers expected to reach 40°C on Sunday (11).
The increase in heat in Rio de Janeiro, after a week of mild temperatures, is due to a high pressure system that makes it difficult for rain clouds to form and favors days of open skies and intense heat.
Created by the city hall of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, the Heat Protocol is a set of measures that aims to reduce the impacts of high temperatures on the population. Among the main recommendations is increasing the intake of water or natural juices, wearing light clothing and avoiding direct exposure to the sun, especially between 10 am and 4 pm.

- Consume light foods such as fruits and salads;
- Wear light and cool clothes;
- Avoid alcoholic drinks and those with a high sugar content;
- Avoid direct exposure to the sun, especially from 10am to 4pm;
- Find out about heat levels in the city of Rio de Janeiro through social networks and websites of the Rio Operations Center and the Municipal Health Department;
- Exposure to the sun without adequate protection against ultraviolet rays leaves the skin red, sensitive and blistered. Use sunscreen;
- Protect children with brimmed hats;
- In case of discomfort, dizziness or other symptoms caused by heat stress, seek a municipal health unit.
