The visit of the Seguro caravan to the Figueira da Foz Chamber, led by Santana Lopes, was not on the agenda and was announced during another campaign action, with the two politicians speaking to journalists and then in private.
Former PSD president Santana Lopes defended this Friday that the Presidency of the Republic would be “well entrusted” to António José Seguro and appeared “calm” with a victory for the socialist, safeguarding that he is not expressing his vote.
“In this electoral dispute there are candidates who leave us at ease about the chance of winning, others who don’t. With Dr. António José Seguro from the beginning I have no doubt that if he wins – I’m not expressing the vote, just for the week – the Presidency of the Republic will be well delivered. I don’t want to stop saying that. For all the reasons and more”, Santana Lopes emphasized.
Asked who the candidates were that would not give him peace of mind if they won, Santana considered that “it’s not worth saying” because “he likes to speak positively”.
As for the way in which the former PS leader has campaigned, Santana Lopes recalled something that was said by his father.
“In everything we do in life, we have to do it with category. Whether in the most difficult, difficult or less difficult times, he [Seguro] He is a person who is always classy”, he praised.
Santana also praised “the guarantees of suitability to be able to perform the highest functions” that he sees in the former leader of the PS, considering that “suitability includes competence” and recalling Seguro’s role in reforming the rules of procedure of the Assembly of the Republic.
“Therefore, he always distinguished himself by thinking for himself, being a convinced democrat and, above all, being a serious and competent man”, he emphasized.
For the former social democratic leader, “the President of the Republic does not have to be absolutely colorless, odorless, tasteless”you have to “have convictions”, something that Seguro argues that he has.
“Presidential elections are a difficult combination between the consideration we have to have for the personal attributes of each candidate and our ideological options and our political positioning and, as I even write in the newspaper today, it is the first time that there is a presidential election in which one of the great senators does not compete, ordinary citizens, like me, like others are, but who have a life, in the case of Dr. António José Seguro, of many years of service to democracy”, he pointed out.
Seguro made a point of explaining to journalists that he was the one who initiated the meeting with Santana Lopes.
“He is a person because I have a lot, a lot, a lot of esteem and he has often not been given due justice”, emphasized the socialist.
