São Paulo: wing abandons Casares political group on the eve of voting

In a turbulent week behind the political scenes in São Paulo, President Julio Casares’s political group, “Participação” announced this Friday (9) the departure of the “Juntos Pelo São Paulo” coalition, a larger group supporting the president.

In the announcement, the group states that three other groups have also withdrawn. They are “Vanguarda”, “Legião” and “Semper Tricolor”. The action, according to the group, aims to protect the institution.

“May history judge us by the courage to act, and never by the cowardice of silence. São Paulo deserves respect, and we will guarantee that”, says the statement.

Impeachment vote

The group calls on advisors to attend the extraordinary meeting that could result in Júlio Casares’ removal from the club’s presidency. The date chosen by the Deliberative Council is January 16th.

For the impeachment to be approved, a favorable vote from 75% of eligible councilors will be required, which requires a high quorum. In total, 191 councilors are qualified to participate in the vote. .
