USA – Venezuela: Americans visit Caracas to resume diplomatic relations

ΗΠΑ – Βενεζουέλα: Επίσκεψη Αμερικανών στο Καράκας για επανέναρξη διπλωματικών σχέσεων

US diplomats went to Caracas to consider reopening the airport, which has been closed since 2019, an official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

John McNamara, top diplomat at the US embassy in neighboring Colombia, and other diplomats “went to Caracas to conduct an initial diagnosis with a view to the gradual resumption of (US diplomatic) work in Venezuela,” a US official said.

Diplomats and security personnel traveled to Caracas to assess a “possible phased resumption” of embassy operations there, a State Department spokesman said, according to Reuters.

The Venezuelan government, for its part, has also confirmed that it has begun an exploratory diplomatic phase with the US, with the aim of re-establishing a diplomatic presence in both countries.
