The first days of 2026 present worrying numbers in relation to traffic violence in Acre. In just 10 days, three people died in accidents recorded on highways and urban roads in the state, in addition to several serious injuries and incidents marked by recklessness and escape without providing help.

The third confirmed death in 2026 occurred last Thursday afternoon (8), on BR-364, in Rio Branco. Motorcyclist Edno Nazareno de Oliveira Barroso, aged 50, died after being involved in a serious accident with a cattle truck. It was raining at the time of the collision, and the victim died at the scene.
According to the information gathered, Edno was traveling in the same direction as the truck, in the center-neighborhood section, when he collided with the side of the vehicle, lost his balance and ended up falling under the truck. Samu confirmed the death and the body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML).
Family members reported that Edno worked as an app driver, returned home to the Belo Jardim I neighborhood, and left behind a wife and three children.

Before that, two other deaths had already been recorded in the first days of the year. On January 1st, a serious accident was recorded on BR-364, at km 12, between Sena Madureira and Manoel Urbano. The car was almost completely destroyed, with the engine ripped out due to the force of the impact. Two other occupants were rescued and taken to João Câncio Fernandes Hospital, with no risk of death. The causes of the accident are being investigated by the PRF.

The other death occurred on Avenida Chico Mendes, in Rio Branco. He tried to overtake, lost control of the motorcycle and ended up being run over by the vehicle involved in the accident. Despite resuscitation attempts carried out by Samu, death was confirmed at the scene.

In addition to the deaths, the beginning of 2026 was also marked by a series of accidents with serious injuries. causing partial closure of the road. On Avenida Antônio da Rocha Viana, a 52-year-old teacher suffered a serious head injury after being hit by another motorcyclist who made a prohibited turn and fled without providing assistance.

The numbers recorded in 2026 gain even more relevance when compared to official data from previous years. According to the Traffic Engineering and Statistics Coordination (CEET), Acre recorded 6 traffic deaths in January 2025 and 9 in 2024.
For the entire year 2025, the state recorded 80 deaths in traffic accidents, lower than that recorded in 2024, when there were 91 fatalities. Despite the reduction last year, data from the first days of 2026, with three deaths in less than two weeks, reinforce the warning for the beginning of the year, a period traditionally marked by an increase in the flow of vehicles on the state’s urban highways.
