The director clarified withdrawals of R$11 million from the club’s coffers between 2021 and 2025, alleging daily expenses.
In a document obtained by the GE report, Casares justified the use of the R$11 million as, for example, arbitration services, which are paid in cash by São Paulo. Also according to the survey, of this amount, R$8.23 million would be “game operating expenses”.
The remainder of the amounts, around R$5 million, would be used to pay prizes to players, the so-called “animals”, traditional at the Morumbi club since the time of the late president Juvenal Juvêncio. This practice is also common in other teams in the country.
The complete document was sent to the Deliberative Council to form Casares’ defense in the impeachment process. Still according to the leader’s arguments, any and all use of São Paulo funds were made within the limits of the law and are subject to audit to prove their legality. The R$11 million, according to the defense, would have no connection whatsoever with the president’s personal financial life.
