The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Báker Kálibaf, is a supporter of a hard line, and he made this threat during a discussion on the domestic political situation. At one point, lawmakers chanted, “Death to America!” and other slogans in support of the government.
Protests and internet blocking
Iran has been facing widespread anti-government protests since the end of 2025. Authorities have blocked the internet nationwide for more than 60 hours, monitoring company Netblocks said on Sunday.
“This censorship measure poses a direct threat to the safety and well-being of Iranians at a crucial moment for the country’s future,” the company said on the X network.
Nationwide demonstrations and interventions

At least 116 people were killed in violence related to the demonstrations, activists said. Another 2,600 people were detained, the US Human Rights Activists News Agency reported.
As the Internet and phone connections are down in Iran, it is increasingly difficult to monitor the progress of the demonstrations from abroad. Iranian authorities indicated on Saturday that they might step up their crackdown on protesters.
